⚡ Uploading a file is usually faster. Pasted links join a download queue shared by everyone, so at busy times they wait. An upload uses your own connection and skips that queue entirely — and if your video is on YouTube, there are plenty of free sites a quick search away that will save it to your device first.

Speech speed changes how fast the voice reads — captions stay locked to it. 1.1× is the default because short-form narration lands better slightly fast. Background speed only changes how fast the footage plays behind it.

Automation
Clipkiln can run itself every day, three ways. Clip extraction works through a list of videos you queue up — pulling the best moments out of each one, rendering them as shorts and posting them. Compilations works through the same list, but joins the best moments into one longer video with a title band instead of posting them separately. Story videos writes original scripts with your own AI account and turns those into narrated videos. Pick a type below; everything under it changes to match.

Automation type
1. Extraction list
The videos waiting to be cut into shorts. Paste a link or upload a file and Clipkiln fetches it now — so a bad link fails while you are watching, not at 9am. Each run takes the oldest videos off the list and works through them; once a video is done it leaves the list.
In the list
Off, a run stops once it has posted its daily quota of clips — which on a video that yields a few good ones means roughly one video per run. On, the run moves to the next video with that quota renewed and carries on until nothing is left, exactly as if you kept pressing Run once now. Each video is cut and posted the same way either way; this only changes when the run stops. A long list means a long run, and a lot more posted in one go.
3. Schedule
Clipkiln works down the list until it has posted its daily quota of clips, then stops. How many videos that takes depends on how many good clips each one yields, so there is nothing to set here but the time — the cap under "What gets posted" is what limits a day's output.
3. What gets posted
Every clip found gets posted, best-scoring first — unless you set a bar. One feature-length podcast can yield twenty clips, so the daily cap is what stops a single run flooding your channel and burning through YouTube's upload quota (about six a day on a default project).
Virality is the same 0–100 score you see on clip cards in the Uploads tab. A clip that couldn't be scored never passes the bar.
They're dropped before rendering, so they cost you nothing. Turn this off to keep them in the Uploads tab and go through them by hand.
Look, voice & branding
How each video gets cut up. These are the same controls the Extract tab uses — every run applies them to every video in the list.
Clips outside this range are never cut — the same limit the Extract tab applies. Turn it off to let the extractor choose freely.
Subtitles are translated into that language before they are burned in. English is the transcript's own language and needs no translation.
4. Where it goes
Off: long videos are split into parts (you choose the length below). On: one continuous cut — YouTube is skipped for any video over its 3-minute Shorts limit, and TikTok for anything over 60 seconds. Google Drive has no limit.
Tick the accounts a run should post to. Connecting an account does not switch it on by itself, so a new account stays quiet until you say otherwise. One video is split into parts for YouTube and posted as one for TikTok.

Use Clipkiln from Claude or ChatGPT
This page is for Claude and ChatGPT — the two AI assistants Clipkiln plugs into. It is not a general-purpose API page, and it will not connect Clipkiln to Zapier, Make, n8n or anything else.
What it does: you give the assistant a video link in a normal chat, and it runs Clipkiln for you — downloads the video, finds the good moments, and hands the finished clips back. You can also talk to it while it works: “not that one, find the part about pricing”, “start it two seconds earlier”.
Both get the same thing — the same tools and the same cards, with playable clips and a progress bar that moves on its own. Only the setup differs, and Claude’s is the shorter one.
It runs on your own Clipkiln account and spends your own minutes, at exactly the same rate as using the website by hand. There is no separate allowance and no free usage.
What you can ask it to do
All of this happens in a normal chat, on your own account, spending your own minutes. Anything your plan does not include, Claude will tell you plainly rather than fail.

- Turn a video link into short clips — or read the transcript and pick the moments yourself, then argue about them.
- Change how a clip looks by asking: subtitles, font, size, position, colours, highlighted words, the hook, music, your logo, framing.
- Beep the swearing out of the audio and star it in the subtitles — and add or exempt individual words.
- Fix a word that was misheard, and score a clip to see why it might do well.
- Render the ones you want, then download or post them.
Compilations — Base and Pro
- Join up to 12 clips — from different videos — into one video with a title band across the top.
- Reorder them, retitle them, set the band’s text and colours, and let the band size itself so every title fits.
Stories — Base and Pro
- Turn a script into a narrated vertical video over stock footage. Write the script with Claude in the chat, or paste your own — you see it before anything is made.
- Pick the voice, the background and the subtitle look.
Posting and automation — automation is Pro
- Post to your connected TikTok, YouTube and Google Drive accounts, or schedule a post for a time you choose.
- Set up the daily run — what it makes, when it posts, where it goes — and add videos to its list.
- Claude asks you before anything leaves Clipkiln, every time.
Step 1 — Copy this link
The same link for both assistants, and for everybody. There is nothing to download and no key to copy — it is not a secret.

Step 2 (Claude) — Add it to Claude
In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector,
paste the link, and save. (In Claude Code the equivalent is
claude mcp add --transport http clipkiln https://clipkiln.com/mcp.)
Claude will then send you here to sign in and press Approve once. That is what connects it — you are logging in to Clipkiln, exactly as you did to read this page. Claude never sees your password.
If you are not already signed in on this browser when Claude sends you over, sign in on Clipkiln first and then try again.
Step 2 (ChatGPT) — Turn on developer mode first
ChatGPT needs one extra step Claude does not, and it is worth knowing before you start: custom connectors are not on the free plan, and they are behind a setting.
- You need ChatGPT Plus or Pro. On Business or Enterprise an admin may have turned this off for the whole workspace.
- Go to Settings → Connectors → Advanced and switch Developer mode on.
- Then Create a connector, paste the same link as above, and sign in to Clipkiln when it sends you here.
After that it behaves exactly as it does in Claude — same tools, same cards, same minutes off the same account.
Step 3 — Just talk to it
Once it is connected, say things like this in a normal chat, in either assistant:
- “How many Clipkiln minutes do I have left?”
- “Pull the funniest moments out of <video link>.”
- “Read the transcript and pick the three best bits yourself.”
- “Not that second one — find the part about pricing instead.”
- “Render the first and third, and give me the links.”
Changing your mind is free. Re-picking moments replaces the clips you have not rendered yet and keeps the ones you have, and it does not cost extra minutes.
Three things to expect
It is not instant. Downloading and transcribing a video takes about 10 to 20 minutes. It will give you a job number and you come back to it — if it claims to be done in seconds, something is wrong.
It cannot watch the video. It reads the words that were spoken, so it can tell you a clip is about pricing and where it starts and ends. It cannot tell you what anyone looked like or what was on screen.
Download links stop working after about 12 hours. That is on purpose, so an old link cannot be passed around. Your clips are not gone — ask for the links again, or open the job here on the website.
